In 1911 the Macgeorges engaged Harold Desbrowe-Annear to design the timber and roughcast house at the junction of the Yarra River and Darebin Creek. Norman Macgeorge was born in Adelaide on 8 July 1872, the son of a prosperous draper. He studied art at the Adelaide School of Design and the National Gallery School in Melbourne and then taught drawing at Wesley College, 1902-1906, the Melbourne Teachers’ College and Melbourne Church of England Grammar, 1902-32. He married May Ina Hepburn on 25 Jan 1911, the granddaughter of pioneering pastoralist, Capt. John Hepburn. They lived in this house for the rest of their lives and the location provided the scenery for many of Norman’s paintings.
