The family moved to Melbourne in the late 1880s, where one son became the proprietor of the trade journal 'The Australasian Coachbuilder and Saddler'. The collection consists of family photographs and photographs used to illustrate 'The Australasian Coachbuilder and Saddler'. This photograph comes from a family album containing a number of souvenir photographs taken during the celebration of Australian Federation in 1901. Many were taken in Sydney. This photo shows a night view of the Municipal Arch which was located on Prince's Bridge in Melbourne. Banners on the Arch read 'The city hails her monarch's son' and 'The wattle greets the rose of York. The replica ship 'Austral' protrudes forth from the arch, the names of the Australian states written on the oars.
