A meeting on 16 March 1972 considered suitable aims and after further discussions, the rirst Executive Meeting of the Associatio of Marriage and Family Counsellors( Victoria) was held on 22 May 1974. The first Annual General Meeting was held on 28 November of that year. By February 1976 a National Association was being discussed, and the Australian Association of Marriage and Family Counsellors (of which Victoria was a Chapter) was inaugurated in February 1978.
