Agent TypeOrganisationHistoryThe Australian Council had its origins in a "Children's Picture Afternoon" held by the Staff and Distaff Nursery School's Committee at the University in 1949, and subsequent showings of films to children arranged by Alice Paton, President, with the help of Newman Rosanthal, the University's Director of Visual Aids. In October 1950 the Victorian Council for Children's Films was established, with Rosanthal, President, and Alice Paton, Chairman. In 1952 "and Television" was added to the organization's name. In 1957 it joined with similar bodies to form the Australian Council, with Alice Paton as President, continuing to promote films suitable for children.
