Agent TypePersonGenderMaleHistoryThomas Garnet Stirling Leary was born on the 13th October 1879 in Castlederg, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, and was the son on Dr. Thomas and Ellen Leary. He studied at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians Edinburgh. He served as the ship's surgeon on the P&O boats during 1901-1903 on the India run, before migrating to Australia in 1905. He was a Medical Officer with the the first Australian Imperial Forces at Gallipolit and Egypt during World War One and maintained military links after the war. A biolographicl portrait of him contained in the archive lists his many other professional qualifications and positions. He presented lectures on stammering and speech defects to numerous medical societies during his career. He was a member of the Institute of Educational Research of Victoria (Australia) and other societies and was a lecturer and examiner of the St. John Ambulance society for over twenty years. Of note, he was an honoury member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the US Army (1939) and was a delegate for Australia to the International Military Medical Congress and Pharmacy in Washington DC.
