The series contains copies of correspondence between National Mutual Life Association and the Life Assurance Commisioner in Canberra A.C.T. All companies carrying on Life Insurance business were required to register under the Life Insurance Act 1945 and this series is National Mutual's application. Documents sent in support of the application were "Copy of Memorandum and Articles of Association", "Copy of Revenue Account, Balance Sheet and Valuation Report as at 30 Spetember 1943". Other information required was address of Association, names of Directors of the Company, names of auditors, name and address of principal officer, name and qualification of Actuary, activities of company, situations and names of representative in each state or territory, classes of Life Insurance business, table used for calculation paid-up policies and surrender values. Amount of securities lodged with the Commonwealth in respect to NMLA, the Equitable Life Assurance Society of USA and New York Life insurance Company. The NMLA letter of 27th August 1946 also requested an alteration in the method in reducing the paid-up policy in order to repay a debt.
