Part of another locomotive is visible on the right. Partially cleared land and a chimney stack are visible behind. The mine was operated by Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co. Ltd.
The prominent locomotive was built by Dubs & Co. Glasgow Locomotive Works in 1896. It carries an 'ABT' plate indicating it is of the 'Rack Railway' type, designed by the Swiss engineer Roman Abt.
