May and George were born in 1882, the grandchildren of pioneering pastoralist Capt. John Stuart Hepburn of Smeaton, Victoria. May married Norman Macgeorge, a painter, art educator and art reviewer and settled in Fairy Hills, Ivanhoe, Victoria. She died in 1970. George Stanley Hepburn became a mining engineer working in Central and South America and North and East Africa. He died of pneumonia on 2nd January 1937 in Nigeria.
