Alice Ellen Purey-Cust was May Macgeorge’s older sister and Norman Macgeorge's brother-in-law. Later they lived in London with their children, Arthur John (‘Jack’) and daughter, Marjorie (‘Peggy’). Herbert was the son of Arthur Purey-Cust, Dean of York and later became Admiral Sir Herbert Purey-Cust. Alice wrote weekly to her sisters May Macgeorge and Elaine Hepburn and, as Elaine lived with the Macgeorge’s at 'Fairyhills' ('Ballangeich') 25 Riverside Road, Ivanhoe after the death of their mother, many of the letters are addressed jointly.
