May was born in 1882, the grandchild of pioneering pastoralist Capt. John Stuart Hepburn of Smeaton, Victoria. On 25th January 1911 she married Norman Macgeorge, a painter, art educator and art reviewer. In the same year, the Macgeorges engaged Harold Desbrowe Annear to design them a house at the junction of the Yarra River and Darebin Creek, Ivanhoe, Melbourne, where they lived for the rest of their lives. May died in 1970.
