He became Senior Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Melbourne 1934-38 and Professor of Physiology 1939-71, Deputy Chancellor 1972-1980 and Chancellor from 1980. He was medical Director of the Peter MacCallum Clinic 1971-75 and a consultant to the Howard Florey Institute from 1975.
