Historical note: The German Greenland Expedition led by continental drift theorist, Alfred Wegener took place from July 1930 to August 1931. The expedition's aim was to study the upper air, snow and ice sheet at three stations placed on the West, middle and East of Greenland. When Wegener died on his journey from the central station to the West coast, Loewe became acting expedition leader.
