Accession[1965.0017] Papers of Joseph Bishop and familyPart of Item[Beechworth postcard album]Position in Sequencepage 17IdentifierUMA-ITE-1965001700224Extentnot specifiedScope and ContentThis postcard was sent in June 1906 and shows the Beechworth Town Hall. This postcard appears to have the colours printed by machine, rather than added by hand. The sender's comments include: "Yours to hand of the poor old horse at his lonely task. The miner is down below, and when the bucket is full he pulls the knocker, & the horse hauls up the bucket, when it gets to the top the lid of the shaft opens to let it up, then closes & the bucket rests on it, the miner comes up the ladder & empties it, & so on. This is a sample of the Posties (postcards?). I mean, those other things are not coloured ones, there is one of the Newtown Bridge & Falls, & one of the Sphinx amongst the 12 views. Would you like them? I will not be offended if you do not care about them. Visitors to B'worth think it fearfully cold, but we do not consider it winter yet! Mr. W.C. O'Connor is dead, another old resident gone." Inscription: Lengthy ink inscription on verso. Addressed to Miss Bishop, Baarmutha, Green Street, Windsor. Sent from 'St. Heliers'. Postmark and postage stamp on verso. Printed on the image is "Town Hall, Beechworth".Access StatusOpen for public accessRequest TypeRequest itemCopyright StatusPublic domainConditions of Use and ReproductionThis item is out of copyright.
