Accession[1965.0017] Papers of Joseph Bishop and familyPart of Item[Beechworth postcard album]Position in Sequencepage 6IdentifierUMA-ITE-1965001700226Extentnot specifiedScope and ContentThis photo shows a man standing in a snow covered garden in what is probably Oven's Benevolent Asylum in Beechworth. This postcard was sent to Miss Bishop in August 1908. The sender's inscription includes the following: " This is a picture of the fog I tried to describe to you. Don't you think it's pretty? We have not had any more snow, but Stanley has not had one fall clear away before another one comes. Will send you some other snowscenes later on. The men on the Buffalo road have had to leave the work, as it took them all their time clearing away the snow. The ice must be thick on the lake on top, as I hear the engineer of the road went across it on horseback. Are you collecting postcards? Beechworth can't be quite dead yet as I hear they expect to clear about(100 pounds?) by last night's Hospital Ball." Inscription: Lengthy ink inscription on verso. Addressed to Miss Bishop, Baarmutha, Bambra Rd, Caulfield. Postmark and postage stamp on verso. The front of the card says 'A foggy morn, asylum garden, snowscene'.Access StatusOpen for public accessRequest TypeRequest itemCopyright StatusPublic domainConditions of Use and ReproductionThis item is out of copyright.
