This must have been taken about the time he left school. Soon after he went to World War I. Having a horror of violence, he volunteered for the Army Medical Corps and served as a stretcher bearer, both at Gallipoli and in France - but it was his elder brother Jack, who was at the Anzac landing. Ack (as he was always called) was always rather delicate and died in his forties. He was both gay & gentle & everyone loved him.
