An orator and Communist Party member, he became the Secretary of the Victorian branch of the Liquor Trades Union from 1949 to 1963. The Communist Party of Australia was founded in Sydney in 1920 by a group of Australian Socialists who were inspired by the Russian revolution. It dissolved in 1991.
