Taft became a communist in Germany in 1932 and was the long-time secretary of the original Communist Party of Australia. He left the party in 1984 and, with others, formed the Socialist Forum. The Communist Party of Australia was founded in Sydney in 1920 by a group of Australian Socialists who were inspired by the Russian revolution. It dissolved in 1991.
Inscription: "Sunday afternoon at the Bank" is written in ink on the back of the mount and typed on a label fixed to the front of the photograph. "Bernie Taft.
