The Victorian Trades Hall building on the corner of Victoria Street is visible behind the matchers who carry large Communist Party banners. Marchers include Stan Johns, Maurie Crow, Ralph Gibson, Rex Mortimer and Bernie Taft. The Communist Party of Australia was founded in Sydney in 1920 by a group of Australian Socialists who were inspired by the Russian revolution. It dissolved in 1991.
