In the centre are Kevin Hardiman [hands on hips] and Tom Uren [behind Hardiman]. Hardiman was elected to the Preston City Council in 1961, serving as Mayor in 1967-8. He also chaired the Preston Peace Committee. Uren was a member of the House of Representatives, became Deputy Leader of the Australian Labor Party and Minister for Urban and Regional Development. The Communist Party of Australia was founded in Sydney in 1920 by a group of Australian Socialists who were inspired by the Russian revolution. It dissolved in 1991.
