The album documents the friendship of Germaine Greer and Gay Clifford [In the period between 1973-1978] with a focus on their mutual love for Pianelli, the house they shared in Cortona, Italy. The first page of the album contains a photograph of the Pianelli house, the album's title "The Book of Pianelli", a drawing of a love heart with wings, and a pressed flower. On one of the final pages is a letter to Gay Clifford explaining the album: "Dear Gay, I have made this book, the first photo album I have ever kept, for one reason.
