However, use of the Red Cross emblem (a red cross on a white background) is protected by the Geneva Conventions Act 1957. Researchers should be referred to the Red Cross for permission to use the emblem. Contact the Red Cross Archivist in the first instance heritage@redcross.org.au Note that this condition does NOT affect the ability of researchers to request copies of documents including the emblem. Requests for reproduction can be responded to in the normal manner. The obligation concerns the use which researchers subsequently make of the emblem. However, if publishing, researchers need to obtain permission from the Red Cross to use any reproduction which includes the emblem.
