Transcript of Side (A): 'Talk by Sir Donald Bradman' Time Code (Hours: Minutes: Seconds)
(00:00:00 - 00:00:09) Most people these days I think have come to recognise that Red Cross has come to be an integral part of our community life. (00:00:10 - 00:00:15) It’s services reach out to millions of people, not only here in Australia but in other countries.
(00:00:16 - 00:00:29) Those services are given irrespective of colour, creed or political belief. They are provided simply to meet a need, allay an anxiety or comfort a sorrow.
(00:00:30 - 00:00:43) That such an organisation can, and does, exist in our community is a very fine thing indeed; and surely it is up to all of us to see that funds are provided for its continuance. (00:00:44 - 00:01:12) All the services of the Red Cross are necessary and desirable - but to me one of the ways in which they help most is through their fine work with children who are spastics or polio cases. I know very well how much that help can mean to parents through the long years of treatment and convalescence. This is not the biggest or most spectacular service of the Red Cross but is it one of the most appreciated.
(00:01:13 - 00:01:42) Red Cross is now appealing to us, the Australian public, for money to continue its work. Without finance these willing helpers cannot provide satisfactory service. In commending this appeal to you, may I make a special a special request to sportsmen and sports women who have always proved themselves such a generous section of the Australian community. (00:01:43 - 00:01:58) Red Cross needs your help to carry on its job. To provide that help all you need is a generous heart and a few shillings. If we all do our bit Red Cross will never lack funds to carry on its work.
