Topic: In 1974, Fritz Wagner came to Australia "to visit the Bureau of Meteorology in order to express his thanks for some instruments which he received in 1946 as prisoner of war [in Australia] ... During his captivity Dr. Wagner received some German meteorological books through assistance of the Red Cross from home which he offered to the Bureau of Meteorology in case he was repatriated at the end of the war. Professor Fritz Loewe from the University of Melbourne heard of this letter and a correspondence ensued between Prof. Loewe and Dr. Wagner". This item includes the 1940s letters from Fritz Wagner to Fritz Loewe ("In spite of the troubles the scientific life is not yet dead", 28 August 1947) and letters from the 1970s regarding Wagner's visit. A typescript proposal by Fritz Loewe "Program of Microclimatic Observations to be Made by Dr. F. Wagner at Tatura" (proposing that Wagner be given the instruments whilst at the POW camp at Tatura, Australia) is also included.
