There are two labels on the gown. One is hand sewn in on a black background and is inscribed with white letters 'University of Melbourne'. The other is a white cardboard tag attached inside to the hanging loop, on this tag handwritten in black ink 'U. oF Melb. / Doctor / Of / Laws (LLD)'. Inside the hood of the gown there is a white label with the handwritten words 'Melb. Uni.'
