The union was deregistered in the 1940s and re-registered as the BWIU in the 1950s. In the interim a rival right wing ASC&J was formed. The BWIU amalgamated with the Timber Unions to form the Construction, Forestry, Mining Employees Union in 1992 as its Building Workers Industrial Union Division. "The Carpenter and Joiner" was the official organ of the B.W.I.U..
