Archer, B.A. 1911, M.A. and Dip.Ed. 1913 (Melb.) taught at Caulfield Grammar School from 1907, was appointed headmaster at Trinity Grammar School, Sydney, in 1917, and returned to Caulfield as headmaster in 1923 at the invitation of the owner- principal W.M. Buntine. When control passed to a council on Buntine's death in 1932, Archer became headmaster, serving until 1954.
