Membership was open to trained female teachers employed in non-government primary or secondary schools. In 1975 the Association amalgamated with the Association of Teachers in Independent Schools, formerly the Victorian Assistant Masters' Association dating from 1919, to form the Association of Teachers in Independent Schools.
