Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade UnionsHistoryA large union covering both manual and non-manual employees in the private and public sector, ADSTE grew out of the Association of Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and Draughtsmen of Australia (AAESDA). This union was formed in Brisbane in 1915 and was registered in the Industrial Court of Queensland in 1917. By 1944 there were branches in NSW and Victoria and the AAESDA was able to gain federal registration. It amalgamated with the Australian Association of Draughtsmen (1948) and the Federation of Scientific and Technical Workers (1971). The name above was adopted in 1981. ADSTE has since amalgamated into the Metals and Engineering Workers Union in 1990. Further amalgamations of this union resulted in various name changes, from 1995 it has been known as the Technical and Supervisory Division of the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union.
