Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade UnionsHistoryThe AMIEU formed in 1890 from amongst organisations covering slaughtermen, retail butchers, and sausage casing workers. In 1905 it became part of a federal network, which registered with the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission in 1906. Until 1957, the Victorian Branch was responsible for both Victorian and Tasmanian employees. Women came to form a large part of the boning and packing sections of the industry, and the Union became one of the spearheads of the equal pay campaign.
