Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsMining companiesHistoryThe Syndicate was formed at the Mechanics Institute Hall, Ararat, on 2 January 1930, with W. Gordon as Chairman, J.P. Roberts as Secretary and C.P. Murton as Treasurer. Twenty five 10 pound shares were to be paid by monthly calls of 1 pound and two fully paid up ones were allotted to the promoter and mine manager, Alexander Dow. In 1934, following unsuccessful attempts to have the rent reduced, 30 acres of the original lease were relinquished, and in 1935 a further lease was acquired. At the end of 1935 the Directors reported the presence of gold-bearing dirt, and in 1936 received an advance from the Mines Department to purchase a sluicing plant. Despite the sale of gold in 1937 work was suspended in 1938 for want of funds.Search records of this agent
