The case commenced with an Application pursuant to the Building Industry Act of 1985 by the Australian Government solicitor in September 1985. It finished in April 1986 with the decision of the Full Bench which allowed the deregistration. There had been several previous attempts to rein in the activities of the BLF by both State and Federal Governments, including corruption charges against its most famous official, Norm Gallagher.
