Agent TypePersonActivities & OccupationsWomen's rights activistsGenderFemaleHistoryIn February 1968 Muriel Mathers established Freelance Work for Women (FWW), a Melbourne service designed to find part-time work for women with tertiary education and full-time work experience who, mainly because of having young children, did not want full-time work. The service was based on one of the same name which Mathers had observed operating in London. FWW had particular success in finding women work in publishing and libraries. In 1976 Mathers set up Freelance Library Services and in 1981 changed the name of the business to Muriel Mathers and Associates, with two divisions, Freelance Employment Services and Freelance Library Services. By this time, men were also accepted as prospective freelancers. Mathers sold Freelance Library Services in 1983.
