Comm. in 1953. As a chartered accountant he served on the management boards of many companies and institutions, including the Gas and Fuel Corp. (1963-65) and as the Vice-President of the World YMCA (1961-69). He was Liberal MLA for Glen Iris (1954-47), Caulfield (1965-67) and Bennettswood (1967-79), in the latter years as an Independent. A noted book collector and local historian, he donated his extensive collection of works on Australia and the South Pacific to the Baillieu Library in the 1970s. As Honorary Bibliographer at the Baillieu he compiled many bibliographies on literary and historical subjects.
