Like his older brother William 'Big Bill' Lawrence Baillieu, Arthur was a capable and industrious businessman. From 1892 he worked closely with his brother William, in the running of his new estate agency W. L. Baillieu & Co. Arthur would later pursue numerous business ventures in mining, banking and manufacture and was a committed philanthropist. Baillieu was active in the promotion of health care, and conducted related fact finding visits to the UK, Europe and USA, the results of which contributed to the design of the Royal Melbourne and other hospitals in Australia. Arthur Baillieu died in 1943.
