The Board of Management met for the inaugural meeting on 7 July 1981. An interim Committee of Management had administered the Estate of the late Dr Clive Disher since 1976. Dr Disher, who died on 13 Mar 1976, bequeathed the residue of his estate to the University for the establishment of an institute, on the property at Strathfieldsaye, for the purposes of teaching and research in agriculture and allied sciences. Control of the Institute was vested in a board of management, with various committees appointed as necessary.
