Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsUniversity ClubHistoryThere has been a Labor, Labour, A.L.P., Democratic Socialist, Social Democrat or Socialist Club or Group at Melbourne University since 1925 - and often more than one of these at the same time. The A.L.P. Club barely existed by 1971-1972, but was revived in 1972-1973 and in the years following at the instigation of Jeremy Harper (President 1972-1974) and a number of others. From 1974 to 1980, it had almost certainly been the student political organisation with allegiance to a political party in the University. Its activities in the 1972-1975 period were mostly holding meetings, forums, social/fund-raising events, publishing booklets and leaflets and enrolling students to vote in parliamentary elections. In the 1975-1980 period, in addition to those activities, it endorsed candidates for S.R.C., Union Council and Union Board elections. Its main successes have been in the S.R.C. elections in 1975, 1976 and (especially) 1979.
