Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsUniversity ClubHistoryThe Melbourne University Car Club [MUCC] has been part of Melbourne University since before 1939 with a lull during World War II when it was disbanded. It was reformed in 1955 after interest was shown by several parties. Within four years of it reforming, it had over 100 members . The MUCC organised meets and trials during the year along with other affiliates of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS), car clubs from around Victoria and sometimes even other parts of Australia. They had screenings of films about car races and so forth as part of their activities.
An excerpt from the Melbourne University Orientation Handbook (1965) details what the MUCC was for:
“… As formerly constituted, the objects for the Car Club are:-
a. to promote, foster and conduct the sport of automobilism.
b. to promote friendship and courtesy on the roads socially and in competition.
c. to promote and engender social activities.
d. to act as a medium for the exchange of information; both technical and otherwise.
e. to affiliate with he Melbourne University Union and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports; acknowledging the constitutions and rules of both bodies.”Search records of this agent
