Receiving a senior governement scholarship to the University of Melbourne, and a non-resident Exhibition to Ormond College, she graduated in 1931 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education - majoring in English and French. She did not seek a position with the Education Department but sought an independent position at Mangarra Road Girls School (renamed Canterbury Girls' High School) and later at Foster Secondary school in Gippsland.
In 1933 she married Humphrey Dixon and lived in Gisborne, being active in the 'Old Ormond Womens' group, Australian Red Cross and the Uniting Church.
