He was educated at the Church of England Grammar School, Melbourne & at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and was admitted to the Bar, London. Bruce served in the Great War as 2nd Lieut. with the Worcester Regiment. 1915 he was promoted to Cpt. & awarded the Military Cross & Croix de Guerre. Bruce returned to Aust. in 1916 and was elected as a rep. for Flinders, 1918,1919 & 1922. Bruce was appointed Cmmnwealth Treasurer in the Hughes Ministry in 1921 and in February 1923 became the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth and formed composite Government of Nationalists and Country Party.
