It became one of Australia's largest exporters of wheat and flour. At the outbreak of World War Two, the Federal Government established the Australian Wheat Board and Bunge Ltd. (Australia) lost its role of marketing wheat from farmer to consumer. After the war, the company began to purchase flour mills and as the Australian exportation of wheat declined, Bunge Ltd. invested in the bakery business. In 1972, it obtained controlling interest of Herbert Adams Holdings Ltd.
