In 1961 and 1962 accompanied by Lang Hancock, he made the initial geological survey of vast iron ore deposits in the Hamersley Ranges (W.A.). Disagreement over the handling of the project ensued after Rio Tinto merged with Consolidated Zinc Corporation to form C.R.A. in 1962, and Campana left the organization shortly afterwards.
