Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsResidents' associationsHistoryThe Association was formed at a meeting in St. Michael's Church Hall, North Carlton, on 17 March 1969, to oppose the Victorian Housing Commission's "slum clearance" and medium/high density redevelopment of areas in Carlton. It was one of the first and certainly the best-known residents action group in Australia. It is non-political in that it has no links with any political party. However, it was an active member of other organisations such as the Melbourne Voters' Action Group and Traffic Action. Its aims were to protect the rights of residents and to ensure that Carlton maintained its viability as a unique suburb with its historical and architectural heritage and cultural, commercial and residential mix.Search records of this agent
