He acted as a consultant in the USA and Europe before becoming a Director in McKinsey & Co., Melbourne and New York 1967-1970, and later Managing Director and Chief Executive, 1972-1974, and Chairman and Chief Executive, 1974-1986, of CRA Ltd. Following his resignation from the CRA Board, he held positions on the boards of a number of companies including Hudson Conway, John Fairfax Holdings Pty. Ltd., the ANZ Banking Group Ltd. and the IBM Corporation. Among the other numerous organizations with which he has been associated are the CSIRO, the World Bank and the Business Council of Australia
