A committee was appointed to investigate the charges against Orr and resolved that he be summarily dismissed. In October the case for wrongful dismissal was heard in Supreme Court and Justice Green ruled against Orr. In 1958 amid growing academic disquiet the Council of the Australian Association of Philosophy placed a ban on the University. Until his death in 1966, Orr's case for reinstatement and compensation continued.
