Agent TypePersonActivities & OccupationsAcademics - EngineeringHistoryJohn Patterson, born in Northern Ireland, was apprenticed with the R.A.F. and served as an aero-engine fitter during World War II beore undertaking further studies which led to his graduating Ph.D. at Birmingham and joing the staff there as lecturer in thermodynamics and Reactor Physics. He became Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne in 1960, and Reader in 1962, serving also as Acting Professor and Head of Department. In 1973 he returned to England as Assistant Rector at the Polytechnic of Huddersfield, later the University of Huddersfield, where he became Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His widow has created a prize in his name.
