A former employee, John Permewan, became a partner in 1861 and they underwent a number of name changes, emerging as Permewan Wright & Co Ltd in 1884. By this time they had diversified their activities, becoming general merchants and shipping agents as well as general and river carriers. Their name changed to Permewan Wright Ltd in 1927; they later focussed their business solely on hardware wholesaling. In 1976 they were taken over by Herosa Nominees Ltd.
