Perriman was employed briefly by the Vacuum Oil Company Pty. Ltd. until his appointment as a physicist with P.M.G. Research Laboratories in 1950 Six years later, he was promoted to Investigations Officer with the Department of National Development and Department of Trade. In 1959, Perriman became the Technical Secretary in the Division of Chemical Physicis at C.S.I.R.O. until his retirement.
