She was a member of the Eureka Youth League and Jewish youth groups before marrying and moving to Adelaide in 1951. After raising two children she returned to Melbourne in the 1960s and became a member of the Communist Party of Australia. She joined the Women's Action Committee in the 1970s and the Union of Australian Women, becoming UAW treasurer in the later years of her life. She was a founding member of Sisters in Crime and in the 1990s was involved in politicising issues relating to older women.
