He became ill and retired in 1990 and died in 1992 before his last work was published. He was at that time engaged in a biography of Ted Laurie, Communist and Queens Council. The book was published posthumously as 'Red Barrister' in 1994 by LaTrobe University Press. Dr Cook was not long survived by his wife who saw the book into press.
