After Matriculation, they attended Trinity College in the University of Melbourne together where they both studied science. John Rushbrooke studied physics and Peter Posckley chemistry. Both graduated in 1956, with John continuing to a Masters Degree in physics and Peter opting for a Diploma of Education. In 1958 their careers diverged further with Peter winning a scholarship to Balliol College Oxford to study a doctorate in geology, and John later attending King's College Cambridge. Peter's interest eventually led him into broadcasting with Insight, the forerunner of the radio program on science called Ockham's Razor. John became a prominent international physicist in nuclear physics research.
